thinkmexican: Caravan For Peace The Movement for Peace With Justice and Dignity is bringing the cross-country caravans they’ve organized in Mexico to the United States. The Caravan4Peace leaves San Diego August 12 and arrives in Washington DC a month later on September 12. The caravan’s month long mission is to raise awareness amongst Americans on how loose gun laws in the U.S. are having a direct effect on Mexico’s peace and well being. Over the past 5 years, more than 70,000 Mexicans have died in an unnecessary and unwinnable drug war. Although many dispute the numbers, a recent U.S. Senate report found that at least 70% of guns used by Mexican cartels were bought legally in the U.S. By meeting with student and community groups, MPJD plans to put a human face to this drug war that will hopefully lead to more public support to renew the assault weapons ban.
